PHYTOREMEDIATION SYSTEM INSTALLATION

Location: Municipal Golf Course, Florida

Services Provided:  Remediation

Whiterock installed 15 TreeWell© systems at a municipal golf course near Orlando, Florida. Our team provided logistical coordination, equipment operation and labor to drill 48” diameter holes to groundwater in partnership with a Pier Drilling Rig, installed TreeWell Systems, backfilled holes, and planted designated trees in the system. This TreeWell System is a test plot to evaluate hydraulic control in remediation of the nitrate impacted site. Whiterock furnished all site safety materials to ensure a zero-incident project.

RCRA PROGRAM COMPLIANCE

Location: Former Petroleum Refinery, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Regulatory Compliance, Permitting, Data Management

Whiterock provides regulatory compliance administration, labor and equipment for operation and maintenance of a 360-acre active remediation site. Project responsibilities include groundwater monitoring, data collection and contractor coordination and oversight. As needed, our team of field technicians install, operate, maintain and decommission Air Sparge, Multiphase Extraction, Oxygen Injection, Free Product and Phytoremediation systems at the site. Whiterock both prepares and oversees all associated permits for the project to include OPDES, RCRA Post-Closure and waste disposal permits.

LONG TERM GROUNDWATER MONITORING PROGRAM

Location: Former Petroleum Refinery, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Field Technician, Remediation

Semi-annually Whiterock collects groundwater fluid level measurements, field parameters and samples from 70 monitoring wells utilizing low-flow peristaltic pumps and bailers. The monitoring well network canvases a 360-acre impacted site. Our team oversees all aspects of the monitoring event to include selection of QA/QC samples, laboratory coordination, data validation, and database implementation.

ABANDONED WELL SITE RESTORATION

Location: Abandoned Lease Site, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Land Reclamation

Whiterock received a call from the client to inspect an abandoned lease site near Seiling, Oklahoma. The site contained a 100’x30’ tank battery pad, 15’x15’ pole barn, 4 rig anchors and construction debris from various well site activities. Our team removed the rig anchors and leveled the dirt berm across the location. The small pole barn was disassembled and disposed at the landfill. The client promptly received Site Restoration approval from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

GROUNDWATER MONITORING

Location: Active Retail Fuel Facilities, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Field Technician, Site Characterization

Whiterock provides ongoing groundwater monitoring at operating convenience stores and adjoining sites for OCC Licensed Consultants. Our team collects groundwater fluid level measurements, field parameters and samples utilizing low-flow peristaltic pumps and bailers. Once collected samples are submitted to a certified laboratory for analysis.

LEAKING UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK (UST) INVESTIGATION

Location: Active Retail Fuel Facility, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Site Characterization

Whiterock’s OCC Licensed Consultant was contracted by a retail fuel facility to conduct a leaking underground storage tank (LUST) investigation. Our team installed monitoring wells to obtain soil and groundwater concentrations of BTEX, TPH-GRO and TPH-DRO and delineate the contaminant plume on site. Following an evaluation of the risk posed to human health and the environment via an Oklahoma risk-based corrective action report, Whiterock completed the investigation and obtained case closure for the client in 18 months.

INJECTION & VACUUM EXTRACTION

Location: Active Retail Fuel Facility, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Field Technician, Remediation

Whiterock provided 40-hour Hazwoper certified labor for an injection and vacuum extraction event on six monitoring wells at an operating convenience store in Altus, OK. The surfactant injections were targeted at specific wells cited by the consultant as having historical impact above SSTLs. The surfactant breaks down and mobilizes fuel molecules attached to clay. Vacuum extraction then pulls the fuel, water and vapor to the surface to be stored until the end of the event.  Our team coordinated waste disposal with a certified reclamation facility.

PHYTOREMEDIATION SYSTEM DECOMMISSIONING

Location: Vance Air Force Base – Enid, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Land Reclamation

Whiterock was awarded the bid to decommission two Phytoremediation plots that were no longer applicable to the current remedial action plan at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. 268 trees and stumps, along with 500’ of concrete curbing, were removed and disposed at a local landfill. The area was backfilled, compacted and finished with topsoil, planted back to Bermuda grass, and watered until established vegetation requirements were met. Our team provided project management and equipment operation to complete the site restoration, aside from vegetation, over the course of one week.

UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK (UST) CLOSURE IN PLACE

Location: Former Bulk Fuel Facility, Oklahoma

Services Provided: Regulatory Compliance

Whiterock was contracted by a fuel distributor after the client received a letter for an inactive Underground Storage Tank at a bulk fuel facility. The tank had been registered Permanently Out of Use (POU) and required permanent closure according to Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) guidelines. Upon inspection of the UST, the tankhold was found to be within 6” of the foundation of an office building on the location. Given the proximity of the buried tank to the office building foundation, Whiterock requested a variance for a UST Closure in Place from the OCC. Upon approval of the variance, our team submitted the 14-day scheduling notice and line locate request. Concrete was saw cut and removed from the top of the tank. All flow and vent lines, product and sludge were removed from tank. It was then filled completely with water and saw cut open. The inerting water was then removed and transported to a disposal facility, and the tank was backfilled with fill sand and compacted. Rebar was tied into the existing concrete and a new slab re-poured. Per OCC guidelines, soil samples were collected using a direct-push rig and submitted to a certified lab. Once results from the lab were obtained, a UST closure report was submitted to the OCC.

Whiterock installed 215 TreeWell© Systems across a 20-acre site near New Stanton, Pennsylvania. Our team provided logistical coordination, equipment operation and labor to drill 48” diameter holes to groundwater in partnership with a Pier Drilling Rig, install TreeWell Systems, backfill holes, and plant designated trees in the system. TreeWell Systems provide contaminant mass reduction and hydraulic control in remediation of impacted sites. Whiterock furnished all site safety materials to ensure a zero-incident project.
